WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY

For serious eye emergencies like chemical exposure, cuts, and punctures to the eye, please visit your nearest hospital emergency room immediately. 

For symptoms such as those listed below, if outside our opening hours please visit your nearest hospital emergency room; during our opening hours, please contact us immediately and let us know what’s happening so we can advise you on next steps.

SYMPTOMS REQUIRING URGENT ATTENTION

Common symptoms requiring urgent attention include:

  • sudden onset of eye pain
  • sudden onset of double or blurred vision
  • sudden increase in floaters (specks or cobweb-like shapes “floating” in your vision), or flashes appearing in the corners of your view
  • black spots or patches in your vision
  • light sensitivity
  • redness
  • sticky discharge 
  • excessive tearing

For these symptoms, or any other sudden changes you notice, time is of the essence when it comes to treatment. Call us sooner rather than later!
